How Much Does High-Performance SEO Cost?

In this article, I'm going to address a question that comes up pretty often:

How much does SEO cost?

For reference, as an agency we only focus on, and deliver, high-performance SEO.

What’s high-performance SEO?

High-performance SEO is the type of SEO that delivers the results you actually want. When it comes to SEO, or, “search engine optimization,”  the only result that matters is your website’s visibility in organic search result pages. The results you’re looking for are: appearing within the first five links on the first page of Google search.

Everything below the top 5 links doesn’t matter all that much. The aim of your SEO strategy and marketing team, should be to get placement as high up in the organic search results as possible.

The cost of high-performance SEO depends on a couple of factors.

The first is who you hire to do the job. The more experience the person or agency has, the better they are at what they do, and their prices will reflect that experience.

SEO Cost

We’ve seen SEO services cost as little as $500 a month and we’ve seen them in excess of $100,0000.

Our high-performance SEO services packages start at around $3,500 per month and the reasons why are because we use an expert team and the list of services encompassed in our SEO package is actually quite extensive.

To explain, our SEO services break down into two major components: on-site SEO and off-site SEO.

What are on-site and off-site SEO?

  • Speed
    • On-site SEO focuses on speed: how fast your website uploads on mobile, desktop, laptops, and tablet devices.

The faster it uploads, the higher the probability that Google will rank it higher than sites that move slower. Speed is considered an incredibly important element user experience (UX).

  • Content
    • Onsite SEO weighs whether your website features content people actually need and are searching for online.

Google is in the business of providing the right information to people who are searching for information, so it’s very important for your website to have the right SEO content (and that this content is linked to other content on your website and off your website).

Content marketing strategy

Why is it so important to feature the right content on your website? Because Google gives preference to websites that visitors find useful and the way Google measures usefulness is the amount of time people spend on your site. That’s why contacting one of the top SEO web design companies is always the best thing you can do to fill your website with the Google-friendly search engine optimized content.

So when you have one page of content that’s connected to another page, to another page, to another page (via links), it allows users to find numerous interesting aspects of your website and, in turn, spend more time there. Google takes note of this and ranks your site accordingly.

If visitors spend on average 2 to 5 minutes on your website, but only 1 minute and 47 seconds on a competitor’s site, chances are that Google will show your website more, or rank it higher, than your competitors’ website.

The more time prospects spend on your website, the more valuable Google deems your content to be.

I’m going to skip over a few dozen other things that need to be done on your website for it to be properly search engine optimized otherwise this article would be ridiculously long.

If you would like to know more that goes into on-site SEO, or what the best SEO strategy looks like, please contact us and we’d be glad to provide you with a complete list.

Now, on to off-site search engine optimization.

  • Third-party websites
    • Off-site SEO is all about the creation and distribution of your content across third-party websites. The more authoritative those websites are, the higher your website’s credibility is deemed and the higher it ranks.

If many other websites combined are linking to your website 10,000, 50,000 or 100,000 times, that helps boost your ranking in search engines. If the websites linking to your content are good quality and not third-rate websites from certain places overseas, and if your competitor’s have less link-backs, it will also raise your search ranking.

  • Directory
    • Keep directory listings for your business consistent and current. It’s called NAP – factors – name, address and phone number. Google looks at all directories and compares notes and when it is inconsistent. This is another factor that impacts your SSL certificate and Google ranking against others.

Local SEO for Business

While this seems small, Google does rely on such information heavily precisely because Google itself is one giant directory and having access to right information is very important to the search tool.

  • Create and distribute content across multiple channels
    • To continue your rank in the top five linked results of Google, you must also continue creating and distributing that content to other platforms.

Why is this so important? Because the moment you stop and your competitors step in, is the moment you start losing your positions.

SEO is an ongoing battle because it is like a contact sport: everyone is fighting for those top five positions in Google. If you’re there, you’re winning. If you’re not there, it’s like you don’t exist to your prospects.

You’ve got to be there. So when answering what SEO costs, I’d be remiss if I did not address the opportunity cost (lost business opportunities and their intrinsic value) associated with engaging subpar SEO services.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SEO cost on average?

For SEO agencies in the United States, the average hourly rate is $100-$250. For US agencies, the average monthly SEO cost ranges from $2,500 to $10,000. SEO firms based in other countries can charge between $10 and $50 per hour.

Why is SEO so expensive?

SEO is costly for three reasons: it takes time for results to show up, it takes a lot of resources to create and sustain a campaign, and it frequently relies on the skills of an SEO expert to develop and strengthen your strategy.

Is SEO worth it in 2021?

Even though many of the practices and approaches have changed, SEO is still relevant in 2021. For instance, Google's 2019 BERT update encouraged SEO experts to prioritize content optimization focused on search intent rather than keywords. With every new update, SEO becomes more difficult to perform, but it doesn't mean it's dying.
